Your employer also pays ₹3,000 a month into your PF account. It is part of the ₹1,41,667 monthly CTC but never reaches your bank, which is why the gross salary on the slip is ₹1,38,667 and not the full CTC divided by 12.

Taxable income is ₹3,89,000 over ₹12 lakh, more than the slab tax itself, so neither the rebate nor marginal relief applies and the slab tax stands. The 4% health and education cess adds ₹4,734, for ₹1,23,084 a year — ₹10,257 a month on your slip.

If your company takes PF on the full basic

Basic at ₹17 LPA is ₹56,667 a month, above the ₹25,000 wage ceiling. Many large employers take PF on the whole basic anyway: then it is ₹6,800 from you and ₹6,800 from them, instead of ₹3,000 each. In hand falls to ₹1,18,402 a month — ₹7,007 less — while ₹7,600 more goes into your PF account every month, and income tax drops to ₹9,664 a month because the employer's larger share is not taxed. The PF line on your offer letter or payslip tells you which one you have.

What this figure leaves out

  • Professional tax. Most states that levy it deduct up to ₹200 a month (the Constitution caps it at ₹2,500 a year); some, Delhi among them, charge none.
  • Gratuity and variable pay. If your CTC counts gratuity (commonly 4.81% of basic, about ₹32,708 a year here) or a performance bonus, take them off the CTC first: neither is paid monthly.
  • Deductions. HRA exemption and 80C belong to the old regime and are not claimed here. An employer NPS contribution is allowed under the new regime and would lower the tax a little.
