How the ATS score is calculated
An applicant tracking system does not read your resume the way a recruiter does. It extracts the text, looks for the sections it expects, and matches what it finds against the job. The checker runs the same kind of pass and turns the result into a score out of 100, built from eight parts:
- Keyword match — how much of the vocabulary a hiring system looks for is present. Add the job description and this is measured against that JD instead of a generic profile.
- Formatting — whether the structure survives parsing: plain headings, no tables, no text hidden in headers.
- Completeness — the sections a screener expects (contact, summary, experience, skills, education) are there and findable.
- Quantification — how many bullets carry a number: a percentage, a rupee figure, a team size, a time saved.
- Action verbs — bullets that start with what you did, not with "responsible for".
- Readability, repetition and section order — sentence length, the same verb or phrase used over and over, and whether the sections appear in the order a screener scans them.
The bands are simple. 85 and above is strong and ATS-friendly; 70 to 84 is decent and a few fixes away from more interviews; 50 to 69 is risky, because the basics will get the resume filtered; under 50 is critical, and usually the reason callbacks are not coming.
What to paste, and why the job description helps
Upload a PDF, DOCX or TXT up to 5 MB, or paste the text — bullets, summary, skills — as long as it is more than a few lines. Hinglish is fine. Nothing you paste is stored on our side; the only thing kept is a small score history in your own browser, so you can see whether the number moved after a rewrite.
The optional job description matters more than it looks. Without it, keyword match is scored against a general profile for the kind of role your resume describes. With it, the checker matches your resume against the exact words in that posting, which is what the real screener at that company will do. If you are applying for one specific job, paste the JD.
Reading the fixes
Under the score you get up to six issues, each tagged high, medium or low and each paired with a concrete fix — not "improve formatting" but which thing to change. Work top-down: clear the high-severity items first, because those are the ones that stop the resume being parsed at all, then re-run the check. Formatting fixes tend to move the score the most in one go; quantification is the slower, more valuable work of finding the number behind each bullet.

- Is the ATS checker free?
- Yes. One check needs no sign-up at all, and a free account gets five checks a month. The score, the breakdown and the fixes are the same either way.
- Is my resume stored?
- No. The text is scored and discarded. The only thing saved is a short history of your scores, and that lives in your own browser, not on our servers.
- What counts as a good ATS score?
- 85 or higher is strong. 70 to 84 is decent and worth polishing. Below 70, fix the high-severity issues before you apply anywhere, because that is the range where screeners filter resumes out.
- Does it work for Hinglish or Indian resumes?
- It was built for the Indian job market: Hinglish text is fine, and the checks reflect what Naukri- and LinkedIn-fed screeners look for rather than a US template.
