In-hand salary for every CTC, 3 LPA to 1 crore

The monthly take-home for each CTC, worked out by the same rules as the calculator above: new tax regime for FY 2025-26, the 40-50-10 structure, PF capped at ₹1,800 a month on both sides, the ₹75,000 standard deduction and the Section 87A rebate. Up to about ₹12.9 LPA the income tax column is zero, because taxable income stays at or under ₹12 lakh and the rebate cancels the tax. At ₹13 LPA marginal relief applies: taxable income is only ₹3,400 over the limit, so the tax is capped at that ₹3,400 plus cess rather than the ₹60,000 the slabs alone would charge.

These are floors, not promises: no HRA exemption is claimed, and professional tax, gratuity and variable pay are left out (see below). From roughly ₹51 LPA upward taxable income passes ₹50 lakh, and the rows include the 10% surcharge that applies there.

How this calculator works

It takes your annual CTC and applies the salary structure most tier-1 Indian companies use — the 40-50-10 split. Basic is 40% of CTC. HRA is 50% of basic. Employer PF is 12% of basic, capped at ₹1,800 a month (the statutory ceiling of ₹15,000 basic × 12%), and your own PF contribution matches it. Everything left over is booked as special allowance.

Tax is worked out under the new regime for FY 2025-26. Taxable income is CTC minus the employer's PF minus the ₹75,000 standard deduction, and then the slabs apply:

Taxable incomeRate
Up to ₹4,00,0000%
₹4,00,001 – ₹8,00,0005%
₹8,00,001 – ₹12,00,00010%
₹12,00,001 – ₹16,00,00015%
₹16,00,001 – ₹20,00,00020%
₹20,00,001 – ₹24,00,00025%
Above ₹24,00,00030%

If taxable income is ₹12 lakh or under, the Section 87A rebate wipes out up to ₹60,000 of tax, which is why most people at ₹12 LPA and below see zero tax. Just above ₹12 lakh, marginal relief caps the tax at the amount by which taxable income exceeds ₹12 lakh, so there is no cliff. Past ₹50 lakh of taxable income a 10% surcharge is added. Health and education cess adds 4% on whatever remains. Monthly in-hand is then gross pay (CTC minus employer PF), minus your PF, minus one twelfth of the annual tax.

A worked example: ₹15 LPA

₹15,00,000 a year is ₹1,25,000 a month. Basic comes to ₹50,000, HRA to ₹25,000, and the employer's PF hits the ₹1,800 cap, leaving ₹48,200 as special allowance. Taxable income is ₹15,00,000 − ₹21,600 (a year of employer PF) − ₹75,000 = ₹14,03,400. The slabs give ₹20,000 on the second band, ₹40,000 on the third and ₹30,510 on the ₹2,03,400 that falls in the 15% band: ₹90,510, and no 87A rebate because taxable income is above ₹12 lakh. With cess that is about ₹94,130 for the year, or ₹7,844 a month.

Gross monthly pay is ₹1,25,000 − ₹1,800 = ₹1,23,200. Take off your ₹1,800 PF and ₹7,844 of tax and the in-hand figure is roughly ₹1,13,556 a month — about ₹13.6 lakh a year, or 91% of the headline CTC. Move the slider to ₹15 and the calculator shows the same breakdown.

What it leaves out

This is an approximation, and it is deliberately conservative. It does not claim an HRA exemption (which depends on the rent you actually pay and your city), does not apply Section 80C, NPS or any old-regime deduction, and ignores professional tax, gratuity, variable pay, joining bonuses and company-specific perks. Companies also vary the split — some run basic at 50% of CTC, which raises PF and lowers the in-hand slightly. Use the result as the floor of what to expect, and use the offer roast if you want a specific letter read line by line.

Frequently asked questions

Does it support the old tax regime?
No. It calculates the new regime for FY 2025-26 only, with the ₹75,000 standard deduction and the Section 87A rebate. Under the old regime with heavy 80C and HRA claims your in-hand may be somewhat higher.
Why is the employer's PF subtracted from my CTC?
Because CTC is what the company spends, and the employer's PF share is part of that spend. It goes into your PF account rather than your bank account, so it is removed before the in-hand figure — and your own matching 12% is removed too.
What is the 40-50-10 split?
Basic at 40% of CTC, HRA at 50% of basic, and the rest as special allowance — the structure most large Indian employers use. Your company's letter may differ; if basic is higher, PF is higher and the in-hand figure is a little lower.
